Membership Req's

Colorado ARES or RACES members interested in DRT participation should first consult with their local EC/RO. Applicants recommended by their local EC/RO will be given priority consideration in the staffing process.

The DRT will strive to include qualified members from as many Colorado ARES/RACES groups as possible. The long-term goal is to have at least one member-representative from each active emergency communications group in the state.

As a statewide ARES unit, DRT responder membership is unique in that it requires a significant member commitment to support prolonged emergency communication operations at locations anywhere in the state.

Disasters and emergencies never happen at a "convenient" time. ALL members must consider a DRT activation and deployment top priority over other routine activities. Support of out-of-state operations, should they be requested, will be left entirely to the discretion of individual members.

The mobile/portable nature of the DRT requires various support mechanisms – mostly home-based – particularly in the areas of communication coordination, resources, logistics and supply. If you are unable to support deployed field operations, you still may be able to participate in the DRT as part of our essential home-based support system.

To facilitate participation by as many individuals as possible, there are three DRT membership categories:
